ABOUT US
WHO ARE THE AVENGERS?
The Avengers are a Performing Arts
and Colour Guard organisation based at The Roebuck Sports Centre, Parker St, Preston.
The Avengers is run on an entirely
voluntary basis and is a Registered Charity.
WHAT
DO WE DO?
We Cater for young people, between
the ages of 5 - 25 years old, who in the main, have no or little previous performing arts experience and train them in the art of precision marching and dance displays
to music using a range of equipment and props, such as flags, imitation rifles and
sabres. We aim to provide a very worthwhile activity for the youth of our community.
HOW DO WE OPERATE?
The Avengers operates principally
through a Board of Trustees made up from Parents, Friends and Staff and is governed
by its Constitution.
The Membership
elects the Board of Trustees and the Principal Officers annually. The Board of
Trustees appoint the Senior Guard Director and approves any other necessary
Directors and Staff as required. The Avengers also has a Support Group which meets regularly
to develop fund raising ideas.
The Senior Guard
Director and Staff are responsible for the
day to day running of the organisation.
WHERE DO WE
DO IT?
Quite simply all over the country,
the Avengers have so far performed as far a field as Glasgow to London, and
in places as diverse as Village Greens to the Wembley Conference Centre. The
organisation competes during the winter months leaving the summer months to
recruit, train and exhibit at local events.
COLOUR GUARD
With origins in the military tradition
of providing an armed escort for a regimental colour.
They employ flags, imitation rifles,
sabres and many other ’ props’ to add to the overall visual entertainment
and excitement provided by the music.
Members develop
skills of marching, dance and equipment handling in the presentation of a complex
routine – in a series of indoor competitions known as ‘Winterguard’.
